In 1995, Prof. M. Shiojiri, Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT) and Prof.
J. K±tcki, Institute of Electron Technology (ITE) initiated a joint project,
which was authorised by the agreements of the Committee on Co-operation of
Science and Technology between the Polish and Japanese Governments.
In September 1997, Polish-Japanese (Pol-Jpn) Joint Seminar on Materials
Analysis was held at ITE as one of the activities related to the project.
The Seminar was co-organized by Profs. Shiojiri and K±tcki, and attracted
30 participants with 21 presentations.
The 2nd Jpn-Pol Joint Seminar was held in KIT in December 1998, joined with
the International Symposium 'Hybrid Analyses for Functional Nanostructure'.
The symposium was organized by Prof. Shiojiri and had about 200 participants,
with 36 invited lectures and 48 poster presentation. Since the Japanese
partner of the joint project was succeeded by Prof. T. Okabe, Toyama University
(TU), the 3rd Pol-Jpn Joint Seminar held in Krakow-Zakopane in July 2000 was
co-organized by Prof. Okabe and Prof. Dutkiewicz (Institute of Metallurgy and
Materials Science). It attracted 20 Polish, 24 Japanese, 3 Swiss and 1 Czech
Republic participants. All the participants agreed to have the next Seminar
in the coming two years to keep up with the recent rapid progress and steady
advances of the materials analysis techniques.
The 4th Jpn-Pol Joint Seminar, organized by the co-chairs of Prof. Okabe:
Prof. Ikeno (TU) and Prof. Dutkiewicz, took place at Toyama-Tateyama in 2002.
The 5th Pol-Jpn symposium on advanced methods of materials characterization on
materials analysis was held in Krakow-Niedzica in 2004, organized by the co-chairs
of Prof. Dutkiewicz: Prof. Czyrska-Filemonowicz, (AGH University of Science and
Technology) and Prof. Matsuda (TU).
The 6th Jpn-Pol Joint Seminar on Materials Analysis was organized by the co-chairs:
Prof. Ikeno and Prof. Dutkiewicz and took place, again, in Toyama-Tateyama.
The incoming 7th and 10-year commemorative Pol-Jpn Seminar, devoted to the overall
discussion of the developments in nano-structural analysis techniques and their
applications for functional materials and devices, will be hosted by The
Institute of Electron Technology (Instytut Technologii Elektronowej - ITE) in Warsaw.
